When to Replace Your Furnace
Winter is upon us, and you’re probably relying on your furnace on a more or less daily basis to keep your home warm. If your furnace is already near the end of its life, the added stress of operating on a daily basis can be enough to cause it to break down. You don’t want to have your furnace break down on you in the middle of winter, obviously. So, it behooves you to be able to recognize the signs that your furnace is in need of replacement before it breaks down. Let’s take a look at some of those signs now.
Heating Bills
Furnaces break down at the end of their lives because of wear and tear, the accumulation of years of normal use. This wear and tear starts to really drag on the furnace’s efficiency as it gets closer to the end of its life. The system has to stay on for longer and longer in order to affect the same temperature changes, which results in higher heating bills. If your heating bills are rising for no apparent reason, it might mean that you need to replace your furnace.
Repair Frequency
Under normal circumstances, a furnace shouldn’t need repairs more than once or twice a year at most. A furnace that’s getting to the end of its lifespan, though, will start to have multiple parts fail in rapid succession. If you have to repair your furnace every couple of months, especially if you have to repair a different part each time, it’s a good indication that you need to replace your furnace. Have a professional take a look at the system, just to be sure.
